By
combining the host of different combinations and permutations
of these three qualities House, Sign and Planet we can
develop the most complex descriptions of the possibilities
in any situation. The weekly snippets of the magazine
sun sign horoscopes are very basic compared to this
and have hardly anything other than the vaguest relationship
to astrology proper. Any of the above combinations can
describe both people and events. For
example: If you are looking at a birthchart referring
to a person with Sun in Scorpio in the Third house,
taking the keywords above you would get:
Sun
The drive to succeed + Scorpio passion, self-mastery
+ 3rd House mental ability, communication.
Which expanded would mean: A person with a powerful
and self controlled ability to achieve authority through
writing, talking and communication in general. This
would probably suggest that we are dealing here with
an author or an orator.If
the above refers to an event rather than a person it
could be interpreted as follows:
An intense and concentrated study of a creative subject
with a view to enhancing one's communicative abilities.
Perhaps throwing great energy into learning a new language
or acquiring IT skills.
Each
of us in our personal astrological birthcharts have
a dozen or so of these simple combination and they,
translated as above, combine to make a very good description
of the unique person that we are. A little more accurate
and succinct than sunsign's "Librans can't make
up their minds" or "All Scorpios have got
a sting in their tail" and so on.
Whereas most astrology nowadays is geared to interpreting
birthcharts there is another form of the art called
Horary Astrology, which is currently becoming more and
more popular as astrologers find how effective it is.
Horary casts a chart for the exact time a question is
asked and is interpreted according to a strict set of
rules. It uses the same basic material but can give
surprisingly apt answers to questions. Horary astrology
uses Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn
only and for this reason we use the same seven celestial
objects with The Oracle of the Radiant Sun.
So now we have a very basic idea of how the system of
planets, signs, and houses work we need to expand on
the keywords and put a little flesh on the bones. Each
planet, house and sign has a series of tradition correspondences
that are said to be 'ruled' by them. Within astrology's
elegant system everything on earth is ruled by a planet,
house or sign and although it seems complex, the symbolism
is not difficult to acquire once the essence of each
of the factors is understood. The Sun is big, hot and
fiery and is the centre of our existence so rules the
heart, the glowing colour yellow, royalty, showbusiness,
acting, theatres, grand houses, palaces and so on.
