STELLA
MANCE
"Born in Surrey, daughter of the prolific painter, Gilbert Smith,
it was inevitable that Stella would come under the influence of her
creative father. Her childhood play in his studio led to early confidence
with the colourful materials with which she was encouraged to experiment.
Her studies at Reigate School of Art led to the desire to specialise
in fine art and painting especially.
Stella works with various media, oils, acrylic, watercolour, collage
and many direct printing techniques. Her subjectS and the sensual feel
of the materials blend and take on a new life in her vibrant paintings.
Fascinated by the growth and blossoming in nature, Stella takes her
subject matter largely from the plant life and flowers that she loves
so much. Sometimes close to nature sometimes approaching the abstract
her work is always a delight to the eye and shares the infinite possibilities
and subtle imagination with which Stella transforms and recreates her
subject.
Holidays spent in Cyprus and Greece inspire the hot chalky Mediterranean
feel to her clustered houses, blue seas and skies."
